AY Makun, the comedian, says Basketmouth, his colleague, remains his friend for life.
The two are among the most popular stand-up comedians in Nigeria. But they have been in the news for years over their lingering feud.
In a recent interview, AY said their years-long rift started over money he is yet to receive for a show he anchored for Basketmouth.
Reacting to AY’s comment, Basketmouth described his colleague’s account of the incident as “lies”.
He said they were never friends and don’t have a picture together.
But in a new twist, during his recent concert, AY said what he had with Basketmouth is not “beef” — a local parlance for the rift.
The comic actor shared a snippet video where he cited the feud between Tupac Shakur and Notorious B.I.G, the late American rappers.
AY said a real “beef” means to finally “cut the chain” of friendship.
“Beef is what Tupac and Notorious B.I.G had. Not what Basketmouth and I are currently having. What do we have? This one granted Ebuka’s interview and said ‘ehn he wasn’t loyal’. Me too, I also said I was hungry on Chude’s show,” he said.
“Tupac Shakur and B.I.G were best of friends, but when they cut the chain, they ended it finally. The white men’s ‘beef’ comes with a gunshot.”
AY asked Basketmouth to emulate 50 Cent’s reaction to Ja Rule when the two rappers were not on good terms.
“Did you notice Ja Rule’s fight with 50 Cent? That is what they call ‘beef’. What 50 Cent did that surprised me was when Ja Rule held his concert and the ‘P.I.M.P’ crooner bought all the front roll seats,” he said.
“So Basketmouth if you want to ‘beef’, buy all the front roll seats at my concert and let every other person go to the regular stand at the back.”
AY also extended an olive branch to Basketmouth, saying “he is my friend for life.”
“I dedicate my time to you, my guy. If you see Basketmouth, tell him he is my gee for life.”
