Rakim Mayers, the US rapper better known as A$ap Rocky, has been arrested in Los Angeles.
According to TMZ, the music star was taken away in cuffs by the police at the airport terminal on Wednesday.
Rocky and Rihanna, his pregnant partner, have been in Barbados skiing and relaxing with friends and family.
Eyewitnesses at the airport were quoted as saying the rapper had just arrived in LA from Barbados on a private jet.
It is understood that the rapper’s arrest was for a case of assault with a deadly weapon — involving a gun.
NBC News also quoted law enforcement sources as saying that the arrest stems from a November 2021 shooting.
In the gun violence, an alleged victim claimed Rocky had shot at them three or four times.
Rocky had been under investigation by the Los Angeles police department (LAPD) for the shooting which had played out at around 10:20 pm on November 6, 2021, near Vista Del Mar and Selma Ave.
The victim, who survived, said Rocky was walking with two others and accosted him with a handgun on the street.
In 2006, Rocky served two weeks on Rikers Island for drug dealing, where he shared a cell with rapper Casanova.
In July 2012, he was arrested following his alleged participation in a Manhattan brawl involving a 21-year-old artiste.
He was sued for allegedly attacking the man after being spotted engaging in illegal drugs in a clothing store in New York.
Rocky was later arrested for assaulting two amateur photographers who took photos of the incident, which later ended with a plea bargain where he pled guilty to grand larceny for trying to take their cameras.
In August 2013, Rocky allegedly slapped a woman at a festival and was charged in the case that was later dismissed.
In 2016, he was involved in a fistfight in Auckland after refusing to let a man board the elevator he was on.
In 2019, Rocky was in a Toronto scuffle, with a video showing him holding a bottle and barking at a kneeling man.
