Video footage showed the 71-year-old action movie hero and former governor of California posing for photos and filming while engaging with fans at the Sandton convention centre when a man took a flying leap and kicked him high in the back.

The attacker is seen to be restrained following the incident.

“Thanks for your concerns, but there is nothing to worry about. I thought I was just jostled by the crowd, which happens a lot. I only realized I was kicked when I saw the video like all of you. I’m just glad the idiot didn’t interrupt my Snapchat,” he assured his fans on Twitter.

The former professional bodybuilder and powerlifter, afterward, shared a video of the incident, downplaying the situation and advising people to share a blurry version of it so the attacker “doesn’t get the spotlight.”

According to organisers of the sports event, the attacker, who was immediately apprehended, was known to police for engaging in similar acts in the past.

The lead man of the ‘Terminator’ franchise said he would not press charges.

Schwarzenegger was in South Africa for the annual Arnold Classic Africa, an international multi-sports festival, which features dozens of sports and fitness activities.
