It’s 10 times harder for female artistes to be recognised, says Aramide

Aramide Sarumoh, fast rising Afro-Soul singer, says female artistes have to work ten times harder than their male counterparts to get any form of recognition.

The artiste, in a yet-to-be-published interview with TheCable Lifestyle, said the industry is evidently male-dominated, hence it’s more difficult for women to make headway.

“Generally, in the music industry, there are more males than females; so it is a male-dominated kind of industry.

“The very few females that are there work like ten times harder just to be noticed; that’s why I say you have to always up your creativity at every point in time,” she said.

Aramide, who just released an album titled ‘Suitcase’ said irrespective of the genre musicians find themselves doing, it is always expected that they get more creative and put in their best so as to break through the challenges of the industry.

The guitarist also said it is usually better to be passionate about music rather than just having flair for it as the passion would always help one to overcome every encumbrance.

“There is a difference between passion and flair. Because I was very passionate about what I was doing and I know that I had sacrificed so much to get to that point; I kept pushing and here we are.”

Aramide was awarded Best Female Vocal Performance for her song “Iwo Nikan” at the Headies 2015.
