Candidates sitting for the University of Lagos (UNILAG) post-Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) and the 2020 Senior School Certificate Examination (SSCE) may be forced to miss either of the exams due to a clash in their time-tables.
According to a newly released time-table by the National Examinations Council (NECO), the exam, earlier suspended over the #EndSARS protest, is billed to resume on November 9 and end on November 28.
UNILAG, on other hand, had announced that its post-UTME would hold between November 18 and December 2.
The implication of this is that candidates sitting for both exams would have to choose one over the other — a development that could affect some of those seeking admission into the institution.
A look at the NECO time-table, for instance, showed that candidates are to sit for Civic Education — which is a compulsory subject taken by students in Arts, Science and Commercial classes — on November 25.
Civic Education is billed to hold between 10 am and 1 pm. This is coming on the same date UNILAG is said to have one of its post-UTME fixed by 8:40 am.
The development has continued to generate concerns among affected candidates, with some of them calling on relevant authorities to address the situation.
“@Neconigeria please address what needs to be done on this case, we have candidates who have been scheduled to sit for UNIlAG post-UTME and this new time-table clashes with the exam, same date and time with her neco papers,” a user wrote on Twitter.

Efforts by TheCable Lifestyle to reach Taiwo Oloyede, principal assistant registrar, communication unit of the institution, on Thursday did not materialise as of the time this report was filed.
Meanwhile, UNILAG had warned that “candidates must possess five (5) credit passes at one sitting in relevant O-Level subjects, including English Language and Mathematics” — meaning, those with awaiting results are not allowed to write the post-UTME exam.
