MultiChoice Nigeria, the organisers of the Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Award (AMVCA), says it has invested N9 billion in award events, training, and logistics since 2013.
The entertainment firm gave a breakdown of the contributions the AMVCA annual ceremony has had on Africa’s film sector in the past decade in a recently launched impact report.
The company said over the course of nine editions, the award ceremony has made a “socio-economic impact on Africa’s film sector.”
According to the impact report, the AMVCA has issued 267 awards and created over 27,000 jobs.
The report also shed light on the award event’s accomplishments, advancements, and socio-economic contributions.
“The investments have yielded the following benefits for the film sector: improved film standards, international recognition and promotion, exposure and distribution, socio-economic impact, talent development, industry networking and collaboration,” the report reads in part.
“61.9 percent of film sector players say that AMVCA has contributed to the growth of the African film sector.
“76.1 percent of African film sector players say that AMVCA has contributed to the international recognition of African films.”

The ninth edition of the AMVCA was held in May. The event which recognises outstanding performances in television, film, and entertainment, was hosted by Zozibini Tunzi and IK Osakioduwa.
Bimbo Ademoye won the award for ‘Best Actress in a Comedy Drama, Movie, or TV Series’.
Tobi Bakre was named the ‘Best Actor in a Drama’ while Osas Ighodaro snagged ‘Best Actress in a Drama’.
Broda Shaggi also won ‘Best Actor in a Comedy Drama, Movie, or TV Series’ for his role in ‘Inside Life’.
