Alex Otti, governor of Abia, has appointed Martins Okwun, the singer popularly known as J. Martins, as the special assistant on tourism and entertainment.
Kazie Uko, Otti’s chief press secretary, announced the appointment in a statement released on Tuesday night.
The governor also named Kanu Nwankwo, the former Super Eagles forward, as the chairman of Enyimba International Football Club, Aba.
Otti further appointed 28 other persons to take up various roles in his administration.
According to the statement, the appointments are effective immediately.
Martins has established himself as a popular name in the Nigerian music industry with several chart-topping projects.
He has won a plethora of awards and made headlines on a few occasions for his opinions on national issues.
In 2021, he lamented the widespread insecurity in the country under the President Muhammadu Buhari- led administration.
“There is no part of this country that is not under attack, if not banditry, it is kidnapping or Boko Haram or killing of security officers, these things were never heard of before but now it is our everyday living experience,” he had said.
“Oh Jonathan I know you were called all sorts of names, those who betrayed you some of them are dead while many have no shame.”
