Lamidi Adeyemi, Alaafin of Oyo, has set the Nigerian Twittersphere abuzz after he made a public appearance with Olori Chioma Adeyemi, his new wife, over the weekend.

The monarch and his new wife were seen at the installation of Tomori Williams, a real estate mogul, as the Aare Onikoyi of Yorubaland in Ibadan.

Alaafin graced the event with his wives, all of whom were adorned in identical lace outfits, headgears, and face masks.

The spotlight, however, beamed on Chioma after Wasiu Ayinde, a Fuji singer better known as Kwam 1, during his tributary performance, announced the Igbo lady as being among the Yoruba monarch’s wives.

Ever since videos from the event surfaced on Twitter, it has generated mixed reactions among Nigerians.

While some commended the inter-ethnic union, others teased the family on the idea of an 82-year-old marrying a young lady.

“The 82-year-old Alaafin of Oyo has taken a new wife Chioma & given her Assurance. Chioma will now be his 13th wife. Congratulations to the King Solomon of our time,” a Twitter user wrote.

In a positive comment, another Nigerian wrote: “Alaafin of Oyo marries Chioma from Imo. Tribalism is outdated.”
