The management of Ajayi Crowther University (ACU), Oyo, has announced fifty scholars as winners of this year’s N25 million academic research grant organised by Olutoyin Okeowo, the varsity pro-chancellor and council chairman.
In a statement, the varsity management said the scholars will undertake research work in agriculture, humanities, engineering, and other fields of discipline.
The research grant is said to be part of the university’s efforts to promote the discovery of new ideas, concepts, study, and academic excellence.
According to the statement, the 50 researchers will be placed into 10 groups.
Wahab Akanbi, a professor of agriculture, will lead one of the teams to work on the use of cashew apple wastes for the production of organic fertilisers and bio-pesticides.
In another research, Simon Okanlawon of the department of architecture will lead a team of six scholars to explore the relevance of rural architecture in sustainable agricultural settlement in Oyo.
In the same vein, Moses Adebayo, department of agriculture, will lead his team to assess elite maize genotypes for new product pipeline development for the university’s seed company.
Other areas of research to be covered are engineering, humanities, natural sciences, arts, communications, and media studies.
The university also said the 10 groups of researchers will receive the N25 million facilitated by the council chairman.
Olumuyiwa Popoola, ACU deputy vice-chancellor and chairman of the grants committee, said all the approved proposals were evaluated to ensure their consistency with the university mandate and research objectives.
Popoola also appreciated Folake Olanbiwoninu, the university’s acting director of research, innovation, and linkages, and members of the committee for the completion of the selection process.
