The Actors Guild of Nigeria (AGN) has confirmed that Olu Jacobs, a veteran Nollywood star, is “alive, very hale and hearty”.
The internet was on Tuesday awash with rumours that the veteran film star had passed on after battling with an undisclosed sickness.
The AGN, however, attributed the reports to the workings of mischief makers and industry enemies in a statement by Monalisa Chinda Coker, the guild’s national PRO.
Coker said the guild has been in contact with Jacobs and his family.
“This is to inform the general public that our legendary actor, Olu Jacobs is alive, very hale, and hearty. Disregard the malicious rumor about his death making rounds,” the statement read.
“The National President of the Actors Guild of Nigeria is in touch with the family. We use this medium to warn mischief makers and enemies of our industry to desist from this wickedness.”
Lala Akindoju, a Nollywood actress, had earlier dismissed the rumours.
“Uncle Olu Jacobs is alive and well. Very much so. I just got off the phone with him. Please stop spreading fake news,” she tweeted.
The rumours came days after Joke Silva, the veteran actor’s wife, had dismissed claims that they endorsed an unidentified drug for the treatment of diabetes.
“Olu Jacobs and I have NOT endorsed any medication to treat diabetes. If and when we do, the public will be informed in advance on our platforms and it will be audiovisual,” she had stated.
