Circuits, the leading pan-African streaming platform and virtual cinema, has announced the appointment of Ese Owie to its advisory council The Bench.
The platform, in a statement released on Monday, revealed that Owie, an international trade lawyer, business leader, and policy expert, will assume the role of an advisor.
The statement disclosed that Owie brings over “twenty-five years of exceptional leadership to The Bench, with deep expertise spanning corporate finance, trade policy, market intelligence, taxation, and public governance. His extensive networks and strategic acumen are expected to be invaluable assets for Circuits”.
Owie is the executive chairman of Numelec Africa Holdings, a leading healthcare solutions company which operates in 38 African countries.
He previously served as executive chairman of the Edo state internal revenue service and was a member of the Edo state executive council.
“An international trade lawyer with a D.Phil. in Public International Law from the University of Oxford, an LLM (with distinction) from University of Hull, and an LLB from University of Benin, he has cultivated strong global networks across governments, corporations, and development institutions,” the statement reads in part.
“He is also a Professor of International Law and Policy at EUCLID (Pôle Universitaire EUCLIDE / Euclid University) and holds visiting fellowships at the University of Essex Law School, United Kingdom and the University of Caoe Town, South Africa.
“He recently completed Foundry Fellowship at the MIT Kuo Sharper Centre for Prosperityand Entrepreneurship, which recognizes Africa’s leading entrepreneurs and ecosystem builders.”
In his remark, Mohammed Sedik, the associate vice president at Circuits, highlighted the benefits of Owie’s appointment, adding that it will expand the platform’s global presence.
“Dr.Ese Owie’s global expertise and network will be instrumental as Circuits continues to expand its pan-African reach and global scale,” he said.
“His appointment reinforces our mission to broaden cultural representation, create economic opportunities for African creators, and redefine how global audiences experience African entertainment.”
On his part, Owie expressed his enthusiasm for the new role, saying: “I am honoured to join The Bench at this pivotal moment.
“Circuits has already redefined the future of African entertainment, and I look forward to leveraging my resources and networks to help accelerate its impact across the continent and beyond.”
Since its launch, Circuits has become a premier entertainment hub, delivering millions of unique streams to a worldwide audience.
Its extensive and rapidly expanding library showcases the best of African cinema, including major Nollywood blockbusters, critically acclaimed Francophone features, and vibrant East African films, all accessible via web, mobile, and smart TV apps.
The platform’s innovative business model ensures that Nollywood producers continue to earn revenue long after initial licensing fees, often even for content that bypassed a traditional theatrical release.
This approach has proven the significant long-tail value of African storytelling.
Beyond its vast film catalogue, Circuits is also a destination for diverse cultural programming, featuring comedy specials and live-streamed events, such as the exclusive debut broadcast of Ayo Makun’s (AY) Easter Sunday show.
