The filmmaker took to her Instagram page on Monday to post pictures of the celebrities, which she accompanied with a lengthy information about the new project.

According to her, Adesua Ewatomi, Nollywood actress; Tobi Bakre, reality TV star; and Chike, RnB singer, will play the roles of Obalola, Gift and Panama respectively — the three best friends who grew up in the rugged areas of Lagos Island.

Osiberu also expressed her excitement at shooting a movie in Lagos, Nigeria’s entertainment and commercial hub.

“2016, I shot a scene from ‘Gidi Up season 3’ on a roof top in Isale Eko and I was inspired to write a film about a group of friends who grow up on the streets of Isale Eko,” she wrote.

“Fast forward 5 years and we’re standing on that very same roof top, shooting a scene with best friends Obalola (Tobi Bakre), Gift (Adesua Ewatomi) & Panama (Chike) in Gangs of Lagos.

“Really grateful that I get to continue my on screen love affair with Lagos, the city we all share a love/hate relationship with but we all acknowledge, there’s nowhere in the world quite like Lagos!”

Osiberu, a former software developer, had switched her career path to filmmaking, and since then gone to flourish in the industry.

In 2017, she wrote and directed ‘Isoken’, a film about the challenges faced by an unmarried working class woman amid pressure from family, as well as romantic interracial relationships in modern Nigerian setting.

She won Africa Magic Viewers Choice Awards (AMVCA) in 2018 and got a nomination at the Africa Movie Academy Award for Best Director.
