Iya Gbonkan, the veteran actress famous in the Yoruba film industry, has received a new car from a fan — less than two weeks after making a public request.

In late May, the Osogbo-born movie star pleaded with her fans to get her a car.

The 64-year-old said despite acting for decades, she does not own a car and relies on buses to move around.

Iya Gbonkan’s prayer request was finally answered on Thursday after she was gifted a new car.

The car was presented to the actress in Ibadan, Oyo state capital, by one Mustapha Jayeola on behalf of Omobolanle Olatise, the CEO of Alexes Promotions.

Iya Gbonkan, who appeared elated while receiving the car gift, expressed gratitude to the owner of the film promotion company.

She also prayed to God to continue to be with Olatise and her entire family.

The actress earlier received nearly N5 million in donations for a car and a housing project.

Born Margaret Olayinka, the actress undertook her first performing arts training under the mentorship of Duro Ladipo, the late movie producer.

Her distinctive physical appearance, characterised by her large, bulging eyes, earned her the nickname Iya Gbonkan.

She hit the spotlight in the early 1970s when she featured on ‘Pa Yemi Elebu’bon’, a television series by Ifa Olokun.

She has since been featured in movies like ‘Aje Meta’, ‘Jenifa’, and ‘Ese Oro’, among others.
