Olajide was paraded on Monday before the command’s headquarters in Eleyele, Ibadan alongside Wemimo Adeyanju, his partner, who is an HND student of Purchasing and Supply at a polytechnic in the southwest.

Osifeso Adewale, the Oyo police spokesperson, who confirmed the development to TheCable Lifestyle in a statement on Tuesday, said the suspects were arrested on May 7 by operatives attached to the Apete police divisional headquarters.

According to Adewale, the arrest followed after several reports of fraudulent individuals purchasing valuables with fake alerts, ripping people off their gains.

The PPRO said the most recent of such frauds was the purchase of electronics and fashion items around the Apete area by the duo.

“Upon interrogation, the duo confessed to the crime and presented the exhibits recovered from them to be valuables bought from the proceeds of this crime. Investigation for ground breaking insights continues,” Adewale said.

According to the statement, when asked to explain how he used to generate the fake bank alerts, Olajide said he would ask for the account numbers and names of the sellers after buying goods from them.

He said he would then use the information to generate their details by dialling the USSD code of his bank.

After generating the recipient’s name, the suspect said he would alter the old bank alert sent to him by his bank and change the date and the amount, resending the same to the recipient.

It was gathered that Olajide had an app on his phone through which he was generating fake bank alerts to defraud traders.
