Dapo Abiodun, governor of Ogun, has renamed the state college of health technology in Ilese-Ijebu.
The governor announced the upgrade of the health college to a polytechnic during his re-election campaign at Ilese on Wednesday.
Addressing his supporters, Abiodun said the institution, previously known as Ogun State College of Health Technology, will now be called Ogun State Polytechnic of Health and Allied Sciences.
“We have renamed Ogun State College of Health Technology, Ilese to Ogun State Polytechnic of Health and Allied Sciences,” he wrote in a Facebook post.
Abiodun said the upgrade is part of his administration’s commitment to build the state.
The development comes about two years after the governor renamed the Tai Solarin College of Education (TASCE), Omu-Ijebu, to Sikiru Adetona College of Science, Education and Technology.
At the time, the governor had said the gesture was in honour of Adetona, the Awujale of Ijebu kingdom, for his contributions to the enhancement in teaching and studying of science and technology education in the state.
Abiodun became the governor of Ogun in 2019. He is seeking a second term in office.
In recent times, he has been visiting various parts of the state to seek support for his re-election bid.
