Yemi Akinbamiwa, a 300-level of Adekunle Ajasin University Akungba (AAU), Akungba-Akoko, in Ondo, has been killed by gunmen.
Akinbamiwa was a son of a popular food vendor in Ondo town, The Nation reports.
The undergraduate was reportedly shot on Monday while running an errand on Akure Road.
He was said to have been holding a black nylon bag which contained money when he was accosted by the gunmen.
The armed robbers forced him to let go of the nylon bag containing money but the late Akinbamiwa was said to have resisted.
Hence, he was shot at close range.
In a bid to successfully escape with the money, the gunmen shot sporadically into the air to scare people away.
Shortly after, police officers from the Special Anti-Robbery Division (SARS) of Yaba police station, reportedly arrived at the scene.
The remains of Akinbamiwa have been taken to the state specialist hospital morgue by the police.
