In an effort to ease back-to-school burdens and inspire hope, the Shoe A Child Foundation has provided essential learning materials to more than 161 pupils in underserved communities of Abeokuta, Ogun state.
The initiative, tagged ‘Lace Up Towards a Brighter Future 2.0: Christmas Edition,’ was held on December 6, at two tuition-free schools in the Obantoko community: Strong Foundation Nursery & Primary School and Dreamers College.
Aimed at preparing pupils for the new academic term and reducing the financial strain on families, the outreach distributed vital supplies including 130+ pairs of shoes, 170 mathematical sets, 200+ notebooks and drawstring school bags.
For the children, the event was a moment of pure joy, marked by bright smiles, excited chatter, and heartfelt appreciation —transforming a distribution exercise into a memorable encounter.
Teachers at both schools also expressed gratitude, noting that the support would improve classroom participation, focus and the children’s overall confidence.
Parents and caregivers shared testimonies about the timeliness of the intervention, especially as economic hardship continues to threaten access to quality education for many households.
Speaking at the outreach, representatives of Shoe A Child Foundation said the initiative aligns with the organisation’s mission to reduce educational inequality in rural and low-income communities.
The foundation added that it will continue to ensure children can “step into the classroom feeling ready, supported, and hopeful”.
In July, the non-governmental organisation (NGO) distributed brand-new shoes to children aged 5 to 11 in Mushin, Lagos.
