Omah Lay, the Nigerian singer, has broken his silence after earning his first Grammy nomination, expressing a mix of excitement and personal priorities.

The artiste, known for his hit ‘Soso,’ was on Friday nominated in the ‘Best African Music Performance’ category for his collaborative single ‘With You,’ which features fellow Nigerian superstar Davido.

The nomination places him among other Nigerian heavyweights in the same category, including Ayra Starr, Wizkid, and Burna Boy — the latter of whom also secured an additional nomination for ‘Best Global Music Album.’

Despite the career milestone, Omah Lay took to his Instagram channel to state that awards are not something he deeply “cares about”.

He added that he genuinely hopes Davido wins, describing him as “the realest friend” who stood by him through his toughest moments.

“I’m excited about this Grammy nomination haha but for real, for real I don’t give a sh!t about awards,” he wrote.

“Yeah but I really want it for OBO! he is the realest friend I’ve had in while, he stood by during my hardest times.”

This nomination is a significant moment for Davido as well. Despite four previous nominations, the Afrobeats star has yet to secure a Grammy win. His prospects are bolstered by his recent appointment as a voting member of the Recording Academy.

The 2026 Grammy Awards ceremony is scheduled for February 1, 2026, at the Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles, and will be broadcast on CBS and streamed on Paramount+.
