Musiliu ‘MC Oluomo’ Akinsanya, the national president of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW), has addressed allegations that he failed to compensate actors who campaigned for President Bola Tinubu during the 2023 elections.
The controversy began when several actors, most notably Alapini and Lalude, publicly voiced their regret and a sense of abandonment.
They claimed that despite their active support for the then-presidential candidate, they were left without any form of compensation after the elections.
However, a different perspective was offered by fellow actor Babatunde ‘Fokoko’ Bamgbode, who argued that MC Oluomo never made any explicit promises of financial reward to the celebrities in the first place.
In a forthcoming interview with Kola Olootu, MC Oluomo revealed that he personally arranged and funded accommodation for the entertainers throughout the campaign period.
He said he secured approximately 140 hotel rooms for the celebrities, paying N45,000 per room, per day.
The NURTW president stated that the arrangement, along with direct payments for their services, was sustained for a period of three to four months.
Challenging the narrative of non-payment, MC Oluomo dared any of the individuals to publicly deny having received funds from him.
He further emphasised that the entire initiative was funded from his personal resources.
“They should come outside and say they did not receive nothing from me. I did not receive any dime from Abuja during the campaign. I sponsored the process with my personal funds because after God, my father, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu is the next person in my life,” he said.
“I booked 140 rooms for the actors and actresses (during the campaign) and I was paying N45,000 on each day for about three to four months. I gave them money until they finished. Should they not have gone if I did not give them money for just 10 days?
“Unless Tinubu says he is no longer interested, I will not back out from supporting him.”
