The music mogul shared his top five in both categories during an interview with the prestigious US magazine Rolling Stone.

His selection of iconic tracks includes:

  • ‘African Queen’ by 2Baba
  • ‘Ojuelegba’ by Wizkid
  • ‘Fall in Love’ by D’Banj
  • ‘Gongo Aso’ by 9ice
  •  ‘Aye’ by Davido

For his favourite albums, Don Jazzy listed a set of projects that have shaped the sound and success of the genre, notably highlighting Mushin 2 Mo’Hits, the seminal album from his former group with D’Banj.

His complete top five albums are:

  • ‘Mushin 2 Mo’Hits’ by Mo’Hits
  • ‘Grass 2 Grace’ by 2Baba
  • ‘Superstar’ by Wizkid
  • ‘The Entertainer’ by D’Banj
  • ‘Aṣa’ by Aṣa

This is not the first time ‘African Queen’ and ‘Ojuelegba’ have been recognised as standout Afrobeats classics.

In August, Billboard ranked the 2Baba’s 2004 hit as the greatest Afrobeats song of all time, describing it as “a love letter to a generation of women from the continent” and praising its tender tone and memorable visuals.

“From 2Baba’s tender admiration of African women’s beauty to the striking warmth of the song’s video, “African Queen” is a love letter to a generation of women from the continent,” the magazine wrote.

Wizkid’s Ojuelegba also secured the second spot on the list, further cementing its status as one of the genre’s most defining records.
