Davido says he was on the verge of retiring from music just before the release of his global hit ‘With You’ — a collaboration with Omah Lay.
In a recent interview on Noire TV, Davido reflected on the unexpected success of the track, which is featured on his latest album ‘5ive’.
He admitted that while he believed a collaboration between himself and Omah Lay would naturally garner attention, he never anticipated it would become the phenomenon it did.
Davido described the song as a divine blessing, one that arrived at a critical juncture in his career.
He expressed profound gratitude, noting that it is rare for an artiste to experience such a monumental hit after more than a decade in the industry.
“Obviously, it is the biggest song on the album. You definitely cannot tell (which song becomes a hit in an album)). But I knew Davido and Omah Lay would go regardless of whatever happens. But I did not think that it was going to be like a whole thing,” he said.
“We thank God that 13, 14 years after for me to have this kind of a song. People used to have this kind of song at the beginning of their career or in the middle.
“I was even getting ready to bow out and God gave me this kind of song. It definitely added more light to it. I am grateful. And the two actors are amazing.”
Davido recently became a voting member of the Recording Academy, the organisation behind the Grammy Awards.
