Terry G, the street-hop singer, has publicly reversed his retirement plans, declaring he will “never” leave the music industry.
The ‘Akpako Master’ hitmaker, born Gabriel Amanyi, shocked fans in January 2024 with a video announcement declaring, “I’m quitting music. I’m done”.
“I have to say a big thank you to my fans for staying true with me all these years back to back,” he had said.
“I really appreciate you all. Thank you so much for the love, I really appreciate.
“I am about to make a big announcement, I know it is going to hurt a lot of people but I have my personal reasons.
“I am quitting music. I no dey do again. I am done and I really appreciate you guys for showing me so much love.”
However, the 39-year-old singer behind anthems like ‘Sangalo’ and ‘Free Madness’ has completely reversed that decision in a recent post on X.
“I fully embrace being seen as an upcoming artist. You only become a legend when you retire-and I’m never retiring. So if you catch me chasing clout, let me be,” he wrote.
The tweet by Terry, who revolutionised the Nigerian music scene in the 2010s with his signature Street-hop sound, directly addressed critics who accused him of seeking attention on social media.
