The event, which blended traditional rites with high-profile attendance, was held in Kaduna.

Vice President Kashim Shettima and Uba Sani, Kaduna state governor, were among the top government officials who graced the occasion.

The ceremony commenced with the payment of a N500,000 dowry, following which Shettima had the honour of formally giving the bride’s hand in marriage.

The main event was followed by a lavish reception at the Kaduna Polo Club.

Junaid Abdullahi, the bride’s father, expressed his joy, stating that the groom was “extremely lucky” to marry his daughter.

“I consider the husband extremely lucky to have somebody like Halima. And I am also elated to have the honour of his excellency, the vice president of Nigeria, Senator Kashim Shettima, to be here on this occasion,” he said.

In response, Walid offered reassuring words, promising that Halima was “in safe hands”.

“She should have no worries. I know it is not easy leaving your father’s house to come and live with almost a stranger, but not anymore, I am her husband now. She is in safe hands. Allah will guide us through,” he said.

Halima is the daughter of the late Zulaihat Junaid, Buhari’s first child, who passed away during childbirth.

Zulaihat was married to Junaid Abdullahi. She is the daughter of Safinatu, Buhari’s first wife, who is also late.

Following the death of Zulaihat, the former first lady Aisha Buhari assumed the role of caregiver for the late president’s grandchildren.
