Kate Henshaw, Simi, and Bovi are among the celebrities who have weighed in on the recent incident involving a female passenger on an Ibom Air flight from Uyo to Lagos.

On August 10, videos circulated online showing Comfort Emmanson in a heated altercation with flight attendants and later with airport security. In one clip, security personnel were seen dragging her off the plane, during which her breasts were exposed in the struggle.

According to Ibom Air, the incident began before takeoff when Emmanson refused to switch off her mobile phone, violating standard aviation safety protocols.

A fellow passenger eventually turned off the device, which reportedly triggered Emmanson’s outburst. Upon arrival in Lagos, she allegedly confronted and physically assaulted a flight attendant.

The airline described her actions as a serious safety threat and subsequently banned her from flying on their flights.

Emmanson has since been remanded at Kirikiri Correctional Centre until October 6 for alleged assault and property damage.

The incident has sparked mixed reactions on social media, with some users arguing that Emmanson was provoked and questioning the swift legal action against her compared to similar cases involving public figures like Fuji musician Kwam 1. Others condemned her behaviour, insisting she should face legal consequences.

Celebrities have also shared differing perspectives, with many expressing displeasure over how she was “humiliated” and her private parts exposed online.

Singer Simi, via Instagram, argued that while Emmanson’s actions were unacceptable, those who filmed and shared the video of her exposed body should also be held accountable.

“So let’s say the lady is actually mad and did too much. Someone recorded her being dragged off the plane, Recorded her being exposed like that and then posted it without editing out this exposure or blurring it out,” she wrote.

“I personally wanna know who posted that video and why no one is holding him/her accountable.

“Because aunty will face the law, but voluntarily posting her half naked for millions of people to see when less than 10 people actually witnessed it in the first place deserves punishment too.

“Because you can’t condemn one madness and leave another one.”

In a now-deleted post, comedian Bovi supported the airline’s staff but suggested Emmanson may have been experiencing a mental health crisis.

“Mental illness is not only when someone is mad and trekking and eating from a bin. Some people are really stressed. Some are used to abusive patterns of destressing like cosing and fighting,” he wrote.

“Some are triggered by their chronic childhood trauma. Complex post-traumatic stress disorder is a thing. Kudos to the airport staff and airline hostesses for the way they handled that passenger.

“But that girl needs to be taken to the hospital. That looked like a manic episode. Yes, she should face the law. But she also needs mental treatment. Most of us do.”
