The filmmaker spoke at the just-concluded 29th Pan-African Film and Television Festival of Ouagadougou (FESPACO).

FESPACO is the largest film festival in Africa, held every two years in Ouagadougou, the capital of Burkina Faso.

The festival celebrates the best in African cinema while fostering international collaborations among filmmakers.

At this year’s event, Afolayan led an engaging masterclass on balancing creativity with commercial visibility.

The session was attended by industry professionals and aspiring filmmakers eager to gain insights into film financing, distribution, and building a successful career.

The festival also saw the screening of the 1978 classic ‘Ija Ominira’, a film by Afolayan’s late father Adeyemi Afolayan (Ade Love).

Afolayan also screened his yet-to-be-released film ‘RECALL’  at the Conseil Économique et Social (CES). The movie is set for a cinematic debut on April 4.

He hosted an exclusive cocktail evening, where he brought together filmmakers from around the world, featuring Nigerian music and cuisine.

In his remarks, Afolayan urged the filmmakers to “keep telling authentic stories” and to adopt a more consistent production approach.

“Don’t restrict yourself to making one film in five years. Try to make one film every year at least,” he added.
