Blaqbonez, the Nigerian rapper, has revealed his list of the “top five Afrobeats songs of all time”.
In the latest episode of LagosMeetsLondon podcast, the rapper praised ‘African Queen’, the 2004 hit by 2Baba, calling it the “greatest love song ever made in Nigeria”.
He also named Wizkid’s ‘Ojuelegba’, ‘Ye’ by Burna Boy, Davido’s ‘IF’, and ‘Safe’ by MI Abaga as his greatest Afrobeat songs.
“My list is simple, and the songs are ‘African Queen’, ‘Ojuelegba’, ‘Ye’, ‘IF’, and MI’s ‘Safe’. This is the list of the greatest songs,” he said.
“African Queen is the greatest love song that Nigeria ever made. I believe there is no greater love song.”
Born Emeka Akumefule, Blaqbonez gained fame after releasing ‘Sex Over Love’, his debut album in 2021.
Since then, he has continued to release hit projects.
Despite his success, Blaqbonez has been open about the darker side of being a celebrity. He confessed that the constant public scrutiny makes it challenging for him to live a normal life.
In 2022, Blaqbonez expanded his creative horizons by directing the music video for his single ‘Back In Uni’, which features JAE5, the British-Ghanaian music producer.
He has received several recognitions for his talent.
In August 2023, Rolling Stone recognized him as one of the 50 innovators shaping the future of rap.
