Bolaji Ogunmola has addressed criticism of a promotional video for her upcoming movie where she shared a romantic kiss with Daniel Etim Effiong.
The video sparked reactions from social media users.
While some users commended Ogunmola for her chemistry with Effiong, others criticised the actor for “disrespecting his wife”.
The only actor Bolaji doesn’t have chemistry with is none💖🔥😍.

This is why Nigerian movies are not making the right waves
They keep trying to copy American styles and stories.
Korean movies and American movies are true to their roots or should I say original, but when it comes to nollywood the copy other countries or exaggerate our stories— TGIFRIday🇳🇬 (@keshy_01) January 10, 2025

Reacting to the backlash, Ogunmola clarified that the promotional content is part of her contractual obligations as an actress.
She also emphasized that the video was shot in the presence of many people, including cameramen, and that Effiong was acting in his role as Adimchi, not as a husband.
“Promotional shoot/content is part of an actor’s contractual obligations. Were there cameras there? Yes.. tons of people there? Yes. Was he there as a husband no… he’s an actor playing a character called Adimchi who’s ridiculously in love with Murewa. Was he professional, yes!” she wrote in a now-deleted post.
She also reminiced about growing up watching romantic movies, including those featuring Genevieve Nnaji and Emeka Ike, and how she believed in the love stories they portrayed.
“Grew up watchin those cheesy love stories Both abroad &in Nigeria..ones where Genevieve will fall in love with Emeka Ike & there’s nothing anyone could tell me, I believed it was d realest thing ever. Their love story was so pure&ridiculously good. In cinemas 7th feb,” she wrote.
Ogunmola urged critics to separate her personality from her role in the movie, wondering why people were attacking her acting.
“The characters are Admichi and Murewa, but how Bolaji Ogunmola is the person you people are dragging, I don’t understand!!! Sha come and watch summer rain,” she added.
