In May, Ayefele shut down rumours questioning the paternity of his triplets. He also wondered why people were curious about how he impregnated his wife.

“You thought I bought them? I do not understand what you mean. I know you are curious, you want to talk about my spinal cord injury. Anybody who has a spinal cord injury might not be able to impregnate a lady. Yeah, it is a fact, it is one out of a hundred,” he had said.

Ayefele was involved in a car crash that damaged his spinal cord and impeded his ability to walk on December 12, 1997.
