VeryDarkMan, the controversial activist, has  appealed to Burna Boy, the Afrofusion singer, to take legal action against Speed Darlington instead of getting him detained.

Darlington was initially reported missing, sparking widespread concern. A video later surfaced online showing the singer in handcuffs, suggesting arrest.

Deji Adeyanju, the human rights lawyer, also confirmed that Darlington was arrested in Lagos last Friday and then transferred to Abuja, where he has been detained.

The lawyer revealed that the arrest stemmed from a formal complaint filed by Burna Boy.

In an Instagram post on Tuesday, VeryDarkMan advised Burna Boy not to become “an oppressor like politicians”.

He argued that Darlington is entitled to freedom of speech and should be released from police detention.

The activist also urged Burna Boy to employ the services of “the best lawyers” to charge Darlington to court.

“Burna Boy you’re not an oppressor, don’t join all these big men in Nigeria to start abusing power. Burna Boy is somebody that I love and respect because he speaks his mind,” he said.

“If whatever Speed Darlington said to you feels like he defame you, take him to court. You’re influential, you have a lot of money and you can pay the best lawyers to take him to court.

“You’re one of us at the end of the day, don’t let these big men’s lives enter you. People who use power and police connections to pick people because they said something.

“At the end of the day it is free speech. I don’t care what he said about you but you can take him to court if his free speech spoils your name and integrity.

“I beg you Burna Boy, if you are holding Speed Darlington please take him to court. You are not one of these politicians trying to cover secrets.”

Darlington had taunted Burna Boy over his affiliation with the embattled US rapper Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs’ who is facing multiple charges for sexual exploitation and human trafficking.

He also asked Burna Boy to explain how he won the Grammy award for his album ‘Twice As Tall’ — a project executive produced by Diddy. He claimed there was a sexual relationship between the duo.

Queen, Darlington’s mother, also begged Burna Boy to “tamper justice with mercy”.

The Grammy winner has yet to officially comment on the matter — although he shared a cryptic tweet, “Who is missing?”.
