Rukayat Gawat-Oyefeso, the popular Islamic singer, has been laid to rest.
Gawat passed away on Tuesday after a brief illness.
According to the Islamic tradition, the burial ceremony started a few hours after her death with salatul janaza, the funeral prayer.
The prayer, attended by her family, friends, fans and colleagues, took place at her husband’s house in Ijebu Ayepe, Ogun state.
Abdulsalam Azeez fondly called Saoty Arewa, the Islamic singer, was among the notable person at the funeral prayer.
After the ceremony, Gawat’s body was transported to the cemetery at Ijebu Ayepe, Ogun where she was buried.

Family, colleagues and friends have continued to pay their last respects to the singer.

In an Instagram post, Mistura Aderounmu, her colleague, expressed grief while seeking prayers for Gawat.
“You did this one. You came, you saw and you conquered. May Allah forgive your shortcomings and grant you paradise. All I want from you is a prayer for my baby,” she wrote.
Gawat, the first daughter of Rasaq Gawat, the popular TV presenter and cleric, delved into the Islamic music scene in 2015.
She rose to fame after releasing songs about the mysterious disappearance of her father ‘Aye Le’.
Gawat continued to enjoy stardom in the Islamic music industry with several hit projects and awards.
In 2016, the singer won City People Magazine’s ‘Best Female Islamic Musician’ award. She also clinched ‘Best Islamic Artiste’ category at the 2017 City People Music Award.
She was married to Shakiru Oyefeso. The union was blessed with two children– a boy and a girl.
