Seyi Law, the stand-up comedian, says he “does not pity” Bola Tinubu for taking the job as Nigeria’s president.

In an open letter via X to the president, the comedian also claimed the backlash aimed towards Tinubu was because he had helped former President Muhammadu Buhari to rule Nigeria again.

Law also said he believes Tinubu “can fix the mess left behind by Buhari”.

The entertainer appreciated the president for “stopping the exchange rate arbitrage that was enriching a few of us”.

The comedian also appealed to the president to engage the youths in dialogue rather than worry about the organisers of the #EndBadGovernance protest.

“I am very happy that I never voted for Buhari at any time. I am very happy. All the hits you are receiving today are because you allowed Buhari to rule Nigeria again,” he wrote.

“While I believe you can help Nigeria get better by fixing the mess. I don’t pity you for taking the job.

“Asiwaju, thank you for stopping the exchange rate arbitrage that was enriching a few of us and the fuel subsidy. Now, let’s get more policies that will better our lives at the grassroots.

“Your Excellency, forget about those sponsoring the protest and engage your young population in dialogue. You can’t afford to fail.”

Many Nigerians took to the streets on August 1 to protest against poor governance and the increasing cost of living in the country.

But in a nationwide broadcast on August 4, Tinubu said he had heard the protesters “loud and clear”.

He also called for an end to the protest “so we can create room for dialogue, which I have always acceded to at the slightest opportunity”.

The Kano police command recently arrested several foreign nationals suspected of being the sponsors of the #EndBadGovernance protest in the state.

Seyi endorsed Tinubu as his preferred presidential candidate during the 2023 general elections.
