Portable, the controversial Nigerian singer, has claimed he was not paid for supporting President Bola Tinubu.
In a now-viral Instagram live session, the singer alleged that Tinubu did not offer him financial compensation despite supporting him during the 2023 presidential election.
The ‘Zazoo Zeh’ hitmaker said he felt “used”. He also argued that it is fruitless to protest against Tinubu’s government, hence the reason “I mind my business”.
“I supported Tinubu but I was not paid. I was not paid any money. We were the ones who supported Tinubu but were not paid. So since then, I mind my business,” he said.
“I did not interact with anyone, anyone did not interact with me. They used me, I became calm. Do not let them use you.
“Truly we are hungry but we should not be killing ourselves. Be calm. You burn each other’s houses, you claim you are fighting the government. What is the government losing now? We are the ones losing.
“You said we shouldn’t go out to work for ten days. What will I eat?”
In May last year, Portable revealed he didn’t perform at Tinubu’s inauguration concert because he was “offered N5 million instead of N10 million”.
Asake, Wande Coal, and Brymo were among the music stars who thrilled the audience at the event.
Portable also claimed some of his colleagues who performed at the inauguration concert weren’t vocal about Tinubu before the election.
“Zazuu dem don rip me oh, na me sing Akoi Tinubu,” he had said.
“That time no be Obi una dey vote for, now Tinubu enter those useless people una dey go dey perform there. No be me promote Tinubu ni?”
Last week, the singer revealed that he would not participate in the ongoing nationwide protest because he is now “rich”.
He also urged Nigerians to “fight for themselves and not for the country”.
