On Thursday, some Nigerians began a nationwide protest dubbed “10 Days of Rage” with the hashtag #EndBadGovernance, highlighting the country’s economic challenges.

Before the demonstration, Asari Dokubo, the Niger Delta activist, warned organisers not to bring the protest to the region, claiming their agenda does not address their issues.

During a meeting with the security council in Abuja on Thursday, Nyesom Wike, the minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), said there is intelligence suggesting that the protesters intend to destroy property.

He added that a senator allegedly sponsoring the protest has been identified.

In response on Friday, DJ Switch said the only solution to the people’s “hunger is food, not violence or intimidation”.

She also challenged Wike and Dokubo to “confront the protesters if they were not afraid”.

“The only thing that can stop HUNGER is FOOD! Not guns, not teargas, not threats from fat globs like Asari Dokubo and chicken feed Wike! I wonder why they are hiding now…. Come outside let them eat you raw!” DJ Switch said.

Nigeria has grappled with a cost of living crisis since President Bola Tinubu ended the petrol subsidy regime in 2023.

The country’s inflation rate rose to 34.19 percent in June 2024, up from 33.95 percent in May.

The National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) also reported that food inflation surged to 40.87 percent in the month under review as prices of food and non-alcoholic beverages soared.
