Burna Boy, the award-winning Nigerian singer, has surprised fans with the announcement of the release date for his eighth studio album.
The singer took to his X page to reveal that he would be dropping his new album at midnight on July 30.
“Album dropping by 12am,” he wrote.
The announcement came as a surprise to fans. This was because the ‘African Giant’ hitmaker did not tease the body of work as expected.
Many fans also speculated that the 33-year-old singer might be pulling a prank.
The shocking announcement came after Burna Boy’s recent celebration of the fifth anniversary of his Grammy-nominated 2019 album ‘African Giant’ which he marked with a concert at the Koko Camden.
Born Damini Ogulu, Burna Boy started to gain fame after releasing ‘Like to Party’, the lead single from his debut album ‘L.I.F.E’ (2013).
In 2021, the Afro-fusion singer set a record in Nigeria after his fifth album ‘Twice As Tall (2020)’ won the ‘best world music album’ category at the Grammys.
Burna Boy has released seven albums so far: ‘L.I.F.E’ (2013), ‘On a Spaceship’ (2015), ‘Outside’ (2018), ‘African Giant’ (2019), ‘Twice As Tall‘ (2020), ‘Love, Damini‘ (2022) and ‘I Told Them‘ (2023).
In April, the Port Harcourt-born singer made the Time Magazine’s list of 100 most influential people for 2024.
Burna Boy recently became the first African to hit two billion streams across platforms in the United Kingdom.
