Martin Mull, the American comic actor known for his iconic roles in the 1985 film ‘Clue’ and the TV series ‘Arrested Development’, has passed away.
Maggie Mull, his daughter, confirmed his death in an Instagram post on Friday.
She shared that her father “died at home on Thursday after bravely battling a long illness”.
Maggie described him as a truly exceptional person whom she loved deeply.
“I am heartbroken to share that my father passed away at home on June 27th, after a valiant fight against a long illness,” she wrote.
“He was known for excelling at every creative discipline imaginable and also for doing Red Roof Inn commercials. He would find that joke funny. He was never not funny.
“My dad will be deeply missed by his wife and daughter, by his friends and coworkers, by fellow artists and comedians and musicians, and—the sign of a truly exceptional person—by many, many dogs. I loved him tremendously.”
Born in 1943, Mull was celebrated not only for his acting but also for his musical comedy and painting.
He gained fame in the 1970s with roles in the TV series ‘Mary Hartman, Mary Hartman’ and its spinoff ‘Fernwood 2 Night’.
Before embarking on his film career, Mull was also the practice squad kicker for the Cleveland Browns, a professional football team based in Cleveland.
Mull is survived by his wife Wendy Mull and their daughter Maggie.
