Odumodublvck claims Tems and Ayra Starr have achieved more in music than Fela, the late Afrobeat icon.

The rapper also claims that the achievements of both female artistes surpass those of Wizkid and Burna Boy.

Odumodublvck, fondly called Kala, made patronising remarks on female artistes in an episode of the Cocktails & Takeaways podcast.

He marvelled at the accomplishments of both artistes within the context of the challenges weighing down on women in the industry.

“There was a time I was coming to London with Tems’ manager. We were on the same flight. So I told Tems big ups, you did it! What you and Ayra Starr have done is bigger than anything Wizkid has done or what Burna Boy has done,” Odumodublvck said.

“It is bigger than anything Fela has done. As a female artiste, out of every 10 show promoters, five want to have sex with you.

“Out of every 10 producers, five want to have sex with you. Out of every 10 artistes that you look up to and need help from, five want to have sex with you. I can’t imagine being in that situation. And after dodging all those things, you still make good music.”

Odumodublvck described being a woman as “the hardest job on earth”.

“The second hardest job is being an artiste because there are over 100 million artistes,” the rapper added.

“How are you going to make it out of the thousands of songs that drop every day? Why should they listen to your own?

“It’s not like you’re doing a job where your payment is guaranteed. As an artiste, there’s no guaranteed payment, you’ve to make it for people to pay you.

“It took me about six years to get my first good cheque. So imagine being a babe and an artiste and you still make it. That’s impressive.”

Ayra Starr became one of Africa’s leading female artiste after releasing the hit ‘Bloody Samaritan’ in 2021.

She was among the Nigerian music stars nominated for the 2024 Grammy Awards.

Tems, on the other hand, rose to fame in 2020 after she collaborated with Wizkid on the song ‘Essence’.

She released her debut extended play ‘For Broken Ears’ the same year.

In February 2023, the songstress won her first-ever Grammy award.

She bagged the ‘Best Melodic Rap Performance’ category for her role in ‘Wait for U’, the 2022 hit song by Future featuring Drake.

In March 2024, Tems was honoured with a ‘Breakthrough Award’ at the 2024 Billboard Women in Music Awards.

Responding to Odumodublvck’s statement, Wizkid said the rapper was not lying.

He further described the works of Tems and Ayra Starr as “amazing” while responding to a netizen’s post.
