Adan Canto, the Mexican actor who featured in the 2014 superhero film  ‘X-Men’, is dead.

The actor’s representative revealed that he passed away on Tuesday at the age of 42. Canto died of appendiceal cancer, his rep told the Hollywood Reporter.

Warner Bros. Television and Fox Entertainment issued a joint statement, describing Canto as a “wonderful actor and dear friend” as they expressed their heartbreak over his death.

“A wonderful actor and dear friend, we were honored to have him as part of the Warner Bros. Television and FOX Entertainment families since his U.S. debut in ‘The Following’ more than a decade ago,” the statement reads.

They also extended their condolences to his family, adding that he would be greatly missed.

“This is an unfathomable loss, and we grieve alongside his wife Stephanie, their children and loved ones. We will miss Adan dearly,” they wrote.

Born in Ciudad Acuña, Coahuila, Mexico, Canto initially pursued a music career, contributing several songs to films and TV shows in Mexico before venturing into acting.

He secured his first TV role in the Mexican series ‘Estado de Gracia’ in 2009.

Canto’s American acting debut occurred in the Fox crime thriller series ‘The Following’ in 2013.

He also appeared in ‘Designated Survivor,’ ‘Narcos,’ and ‘The Cleaning Lady’.

Additionally, he portrayed the powerful mutant Sunspot in the superhero film ‘X-Men: Days of Future Past’.

Canto is survived by his wife, Stephanie Ann Canto, and their two children, Roman Alder and Eve Josephine.
