Terhemba Tyochivir, a 17-year-old secondary school student, has reportedly committed suicide in Akpehe, a suburb of Makurdi, in Benue.
Sewuese Anene, the state police public relations Officer (PPRO), confirmed Tyochivir’s demise to TheCable Lifestyle on Saturday.
Anene said Tyochivir died on Thursday, adding that the incident was reported at the E Division police station.
She said before his death, the teenager was a student at Government Secondary School, Gboko.
The police spokesperson said the boy had requested his parents to change his school “back to Makurdi”.
Anene said although his sister’s request to change schools was granted, the parents were yet to accept his demand “and this happened”.
The police spokesperson added that an autopsy will be conducted to ascertain the cause of Tyochivir’s demise.
“It happened in Makurdi, Gboko road. He requested his parents to change his school. I think he is schooling in Gboko. He said they should change his school back to Makurdi and they were yet to do that. They did that for his sister and they were yet to bring him back and this happened,” she said.
“That is the only thing we know for now. There might be other challenges, maybe an autopsy will tell. An autopsy will be conducted to know the cause of the death.”
Tyochivir was confirmed dead at the Bishop Murray Hospital in Makurdi.
