Filmmaker Akinbayo Morakinyo ecstatic over TINFF nominations

Akinbayo Morakinyo, the Nigerian filmmaker, says he is delighted that his movies have been nominated for the prestigious Toronto International Nollywood Film Festival (TINFF).

Morakinyo’s films ‘Rebirth’ and ‘The Beads,’ have been selected for premieres at TINFF, marking a remarkable milestone in his illustrious career.

The films were selected in multiple categories, including ‘Best International Film,’ ‘Best African Film,’ ‘Best Indigenous Film,’ ‘Best Picture Film,’ and ‘Best Drama (Nollywood)’.

Expressing his excitement, Morakinyo said: “I am deeply honored and profoundly humbled by the privilege of having not just one, but two of my creations showcased at the Toronto International Nollywood Film Festival”.

“The nominations bestowed upon these films reflect the dedication, passion, and painstaking effort poured into every frame.

“More than anything, this recognition ignites a sense of responsibility within me. It is a reminder that storytelling carries immense power – the power to move, to provoke thought, and to inspire change.

“The fact that my films will be seen by a diverse and global audience at a prestigious event like TINFF is both exhilarating and daunting. As I prepare for the premiere, I find myself reflecting on the journey that brought me here.

“From the initial spark of an idea to the collaborative efforts of an entire team, this achievement is a testament to the collective energy and passion poured into these projects. I am immensely grateful for the opportunity to showcase my work at the Toronto International Nollywood Film Festival.

“It is a recognition that not only celebrates my efforts but also affirms the significance of storytelling in our lives. I cannot wait to see how these films resonate with the audience and how they contribute to the larger dialogue within the world of cinema.”

Morakinyo also spoke about his journey so far in filmmaking, adding that “my insatiable curiosity for exploring different narratives and perspectives” inspired him to become a filmmaker.

“My journey into the world of filmmaking began with an insatiable curiosity for exploring different narratives and perspectives. I found solace and inspiration in the power of visual storytelling to evoke emotions, spark conversations, and transport audiences into unique worlds,” he said.

“Over the years, I have had the privilege of working on diverse projects that have allowed me to collaborate with incredible talents across various roles. My work has been a canvas through which I strive to capture the essence of the human experience.

“In my journey, I have learned that filmmaking is more than just a creative endeavor; it’s a bridge that connects hearts and minds. It’s about touching emotions, challenging perspectives, and igniting conversations that can drive positive change. It’s the magic of bringing characters to life, of transforming words into scenes that resonate with audiences on a profound level.”
