Mikel Obi, the former Super Eagles captain, has finally addressed the rumour that he snubbed 2Baba, the Afrobeats legend, at a nightclub in London, UK, in 2006.
Obi and 2Baba are among the biggest names in the country’s entertainment space.
Following the release of ‘Only Me’ in 2010, there were rumours that some lyrics in the hit song were aimed as a diss at the former Chelsea FC midfielder.
“I know say no be everybody sabi play ball, but arise o’compatriot is Nigeria call,” the 2Baba’s lyrics read.
However, addressing the rumours during an interaction with an Instagram fan, Mikel said he never snubbed 2Baba.
The former Eagles captain added that he is a “big fan” of the singer and “would not do such a thing”.
“No, I never did. I’m a big fan of his. So I wouldn’t do such a thing. Have a lovely day,” Mikel replied the fan’s enquiry about the rumours.
Mikel played for the Nigeria national team from 2006 to 2013. During that spell, he scored six goals in all competitions.
The larger chunk of his football career was spent at Chelsea FC, where he won one UEFA Champions League trophy, two English Premier League titles (EPL), three FA Cups and one UEFA Europa League.
