Davido says he chose music as a career after seeing “girls go crazy” for Wande Coal, Wizkid, and Psquare at a nightclub in the United States.

In a recent interview, Davido said he was relaxing with some artistes at Club Rehab when the Nigerian singers walked in.

He said seeing the way Wizkid, Wande Coal, and Psquare were celebrated by ladies when they entered the club “made me want to be like them”.

Davido said he thereafter told his dad he was no longer interested in going back to school.

He said he wanted to come back to Nigeria and focus on music because he saw that the country’s entertainment industry was beginning to flourish.

“So we go to the club, then another set of artistes walk in, this club called Club Rehab, I think Psquare, Wizkid, he was just coming up, and then Wande Coal was there,” the singer said.

“When they walked in, all the girls went crazy and I said to myself, I want that. That was the day I said I’m not going back to school.

“I actually wanted to move back to Nigeria because I saw the industry growing. I had the drive, that is what I wanted to do.

“So I told my dad that I wanted to transfer my credits in my college from Alabama to Nigeria. I remember going to my dad and he was like I should go back to school.

“I came back to Nigeria because I knew it was going to become something and I did not want to be left out.”

In 2011, Davido put out ‘Back When’, the first song from his debut album ‘Omo Baba Olowo’ (2012).
