Some Nigerians have taken to Twitter to register their shock over the omission of Kunle Remi, the actor, from the 2023 Africa Magic Viewers Choice Awards (AMVCA) nomination list.
The annual event recognises outstanding performances in television, film, and entertainment.
The nominees for the 9th AMVCA were announced on Sunday by Bisola Aiyeola and Adjetey Anang, the TV stars.
A plethora of prominent and upcoming actors made the nomination list.
Some of the nominees in the ‘Best Actor in Drama (Movies/Series)’ category include Tobi Bakre, Blossom Chukwujekwu, Richard Mofe Damijo, Chidi Mokeme, Daniel Etim-Effiong, and Femi Adebayo, among others.
But a noticeable omission from the list was Kunle Remi.
His absence from the list came after his sterling performance as ‘Saro’ in ‘Anikulapo‘ — a movie that snagged 16 nominations.
A plethora of movie lovers took to the microblogging platform to express their disbelief that Kunle didn’t make the nomination list despite the dominance of ‘Anikulapo’.
“So Kunle Remi, the lead actor for Anikulapo, was snubbed by the AMVCA? Lovely stuff,” a user wrote.
Another user wrote: “Kunle Remi gave one of the best performances in Nollywood last year. Still surprised he didn’t get nominated for BEST ACTOR. Still one of the best tho.”
A user alleged that “There’s something fishy about Kunle Remi not being nominated in the “Best Actor” category for Anikulapo in #AMVCA9 but the movie was nominated in other categories. I don’t know if I’m just being paranoid, but it feels like he’s been boycotted for his exposè on Nedu’s podcast.”
Here are what some users had to say below:
Kunle Remi missed out on AMVCA best actor nomination for his role as Saro
Even Elesin Oba didn't get nominations!

Kunle Remi aced his role in Anikulapo. Should have been nominated. He's a great actor & shows some promise when it comes to versatility.

Anikulapo got 16 nominations and Kunle Remi that was the lead actor in the movie got zero nomination
Since last year till now, I don’t even think there has been any actor that bodied their role the way Kunle bodied SARO
AMVCA will soon lose it the way HEADIES lost it pic.twitter.com/d2oZDZBU8S
