Zinoleesky, the fast-rising Nigerian singer, has opened up about his relationship with Mohbad, his former label colleague.
In an interview with ‘City FM’, a Lagos-based radio station, the ‘Personal’ crooner said Mohbad “is my guy and not my friend”.
Zinoleesky, born Oniyinde Azeez, is currently signed under the Marlian Records, owned by Naira Marley.
In 2022, Mohbad terminated his contract with Marlian Records after claiming he was assaulted by Marley’s team.
Mohbad also alleged that the attack on him was because he requested a change in manager.
Speaking about the fallout between Marley and Mohbad in the interview, Zinoleesky said people he calls his friends are those who are “very close to me”.
He added that a lot of people in the music industry are “also not my friends”.
“Yeah Mohbad is my guy, but I can’t say he’s my friend like that. He is my friend but people I call my friend are people that are very close to me,” he said.
“Not just people that I know. Not just that we’re together.
“We can know each other and not be friends. That doesn’t mean we are enemies.
“I don’t think I have friends in the industry. I really don’t. “I know a lot of people in the industry and we are not friends. Most of my friends are outside of the music industry.”
Zinoleesky added that if he had been the one in Mohbad’s case, he would not have brought it to the public eye.
“If it’s me, I don’t think I would come and explain myself. Me trying to explain to someone is really stressful for me.”
In February last year, Zinoleesky and Mohbad were arrested by the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA).
“Our men raided an area in Idado estate where Naira Marley’s boys stay. Some quantities of Cannabis and Molly were recovered from their apartment and car,” Femi Babafemi, a spokesperson of the NDLEA, told TheCable Lifestyle.
