Spotify has launched an initiative it says would stimulate “solution-driven” discourse about the challenges facing the music industry in Africa.
The streamer said the forum named, Spotify Talks Africa, will be featuring panelists drawn from across the industry.
The initiative, it is understood, will include artistes, producers, artist management, and Spotify Sub-Saharan Africa team members who are to provide insight into the role of streaming in the industry.
“The African music industry has grown in leaps and bounds over the past few years due to a variety of factors, including collaborations with local and international artists, music streaming, and social media,” Spotify said.
“However, only a select number of artists are enjoying this success, and many talented creators are still struggling to break through.
“This is why Spotify has launched Spotify Talks Africa, a video series that brings the continent’s music industry stakeholders together in conversation.
“Central to this is how music streaming platforms like Spotify can contribute to this growth.”
Spotify said the forum, to be unveiled in form of a video series, will be released quarterly around specific industry issues.
This, it said, would include how streaming is keeping legacy acts alive and the lived experiences of women in music.
