A Twitter verified fan of Bobrisky, the self-acclaimed transgender, has taunted the house of representatives over a bill seeking to prohibit cross-dressing in Nigeria.

Crossdressers, many of whom embody corresponding mannerisms, wear clothing typical of their opposite sex.

The proposed legislation, which was introduced by Muda Lawal, a member of the house of representatives, passed the first reading at the lower legislative chamber on Tuesday.

If passed into law, the likes of Bobrisky, whose real name is Idris Okuneye, James Brown, and Denrele Edun may face up to six months in jail if they continue with their current practice.

“A person engaging in cross-dressing is guilty of an offense and liable to imprisonment of 6 months or to a fine of five hundred thousand Naira,” the bill says.

Reacting to the proposed legislation, albeit, in a contemptuous manner, the fan of Bobrisky urged the lawmakers to be fast about passing the bill.

The fan also questioned the relevance of the piece of legislation, asking if it would finally solve Nigeria’s pressing problems.

The proposed legislation seeks to amend the same-sex marriage (prohibition) act of 2013 by including cross-dressing as one of the offenses under the act.

In the act, same-sex couples and gay persons face 14 years in jail if convicted by a court.
