Nwogbo was said to have flogged the pupil on Monday, leaving several marks of the cane on his body.

The teacher is said to be a son to the proprietress of the private school.

It is understood that days after the incident, the pupil took ill and was taken to the Federal Medical Centre (FMC) in Asaba where he eventually died.

As of the time of this report, it is unclear what the pupil did to prompt the teacher’s action.

But in a chat with TheCable Lifestyle, Bright Edafe, the state police command’s spokesperson, confirmed that the pupil died on Saturday morning.

“Yes, it’s true. The pupil died yesterday (Saturday) morning. We have arrested the teacher. He’s currently in our custody and the investigation into the matter continues. He would be charged to court as soon as possible,” he said.

In recent times, there have been concerns over the rising cases of teachers subjecting their pupils to hostile treatments that are widely condemned by the public.

The incident also comes at about the same time when another teacher in Lagos was accused of giving a 2-year-old pupil 24 strokes of the cane over her inability to recite the English alphabet.
