Netflix Naija, Nigeria’s category on the US-owned streaming platform, has rolled out the gallery of Nigerian movies to grace its silver screen this July.
Below are the seven Nollywood movies that will be added onto Nexflix within the next month:
‘Rattlesnake: The Ahanna Story’, ‘Finding Hubby’, ‘Sanitation Day’, ‘Day of Destiny’, ‘2 Weeks In Lagos’, ‘Flower Girl, and ‘Last Request’.
‘Rattlesnake: The Ahanna Story’ – July 2
‘Finding Hubby’ – July 9
‘Sanitation Day’- July 21
‘2 Weeks In Lagos’ – July 16
‘Flower Girl – July 29
‘Last Request’ – July 27
Netflix’s interest in Nollywood has continued to increase ever since it acquired global rights to ‘Lionheart’, Genevieve Nnaji’s directorial debut and critically acclaimed movie, for $3.8 million back in 2018.
Nnaji had explained that the company’s investments in Nollywood would help budding artists in Nigeria while also promoting Africa’s rich culture in the international landscape.
“We have amazing talents but we have not had adequate platforms to showcase them. Partnership with Netflix is a good thing, especially for upcoming artists who want a chance,” she had said.
“We have more stories to tell. I’ve been fortunate to experience how African content can travel and this investment is going to help grow the African creative industry and get our stories out there.”
