Wizkid’s premiere of a 10-part docuseries on June 12 has generated a flurry of mixed reactions on social media.
The Grammy winner’s debut album titled ‘Superstar’ has clocked 10 years, and in commemoration, the singer released the docuseries which featured some industry players who spoke about his legacy.
The release of the series coincided with Nigeria’s Democracy Day celebration and the protests against the clampdown on free speech.
The development angered some Nigerians on social media, particularly because of his past comments on artists putting out their work during nationwide protests.

During the #EndSARS protest, Wizkid had reprimanded his industry colleague, Reekado Banks, for announcing their joint single at a time when talks of police brutality dominated social media.
Arguing that he should practise what he preaches, a Twitter user took a hit at Wizkid, saying: “Celebrities are human beings & should secure the bag, but do that with some emotional intelligence.
“Reekado Banks was dragged for dropping his album during the #EndSARS. Wizkid tweeting about his album on June 12th protest democracy day, is not only insensitive, but demoralising.”
Joey Akan, a music journalist, however, countered: “You can stay on Twitter, tweeting about the country, while going about your business and living your life.
“But woe betide the next guy trying to just live through the madness. Whatever happened to autonomy?”
