Lai Mohammed, minister of information, had announced the sanction of the microblogging platform in a statement on Friday.

The suspension came after a tweet by President Muhammadu Buhari on the 1967 civil war was deleted by the social media service.

Twitter’s suspension has since elicited a wave of reactions from entertainers engaging with the Nigerian creative industry.

Enisa, a US songstress who recently collaborated with Davido, added: “I don’t understand. This country Nigeria is filled with good & talented people.

“Why are they doing this to you all? I don’t live there so I don’t know, but I been seeing your guys really go through it over there, I truly feel bad.”

“They can’t stop kidnapping, armed robbery and terrorism. The country is as unsafe as ever, yet they can seize passports and block bank accounts of peaceful protesters. They ban cryptocurrency, they ban Twitter. FG is completely out of touch with the plight of young people,” Banky W wrote.
