Ackquille Jean Pollard, American rapper better known as Bobby Shmurda, is set to be conditionally released on February 23, after six years in jail.

According to TMZ, Leslie Pollard, Shmurda’s mother, who confirmed the news, said she’s counting down the hours until her son’s release.

She added that her son is looking forward to spending quality time with his family and also getting back into the studio to work on some new music.

With his conditional release, the 26-year-old songwriter will, however, be on parole until 2026.

Shmurda was initially arrested in 2014 and charged with conspiracy to murder, gun, and drug possession.

In September 2016, he pleaded guilty to one count of third-degree conspiracy and one count of weapons possession and was sentenced to seven years in prison.

The sentence was later reduced to five years after receiving credit for the two years he already served awaiting trial.

Shmurda’s parole hearing was initially scheduled for August 2020 but was later denied. As a result of his denied parole, he was set to serve his full sentence and be released on December 11, 2021.

However, after a review by the US department of corrections, Shmurda’s restored credit for good institutional behavior qualified him for the early conditional release.

In a chat with BillboardQuavo, another US rapper, disclosed that he will be personally picking Shmurda up from New York’s Clinton Correctional Facility.

“I’m going to get my guy,” the Migos frontman said. “I’m personally gonna go pick up Bobby Shmurda. I’m bout to go get him. I’m gonna let him show you how I’m gonna pick him up, yessir.”
